Profile

Kade Chan served as a detective senior inspector at the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB) prior to his legal practice. He graduated with First Class in law and was awarded with overseas legal study scholarship. He read law at the University of Cambridge after completing PCLL with subject prize. Kade was the recipient of the Sir Oswald Cheung Scholarship, an award given to the top candidate who intends to practise at the Bar. He was also the General Editor of the Cambridge International Law Journal.  

Kade was selected by the Office of the Prosecutor, United Nations (Hague Branch) to assist the Prosecution in Prosecutor v. Madic-a Colonel General leading the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS), who was found guilty by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) of committing war crimes against humanity and genocide during the Yugoslav Wars.

After serving pupillage with Mr. Cheng Huan Q.C, S.C., Mr. Osmond Lam, Mr. Alan M.S. Ng and Mr. Lincoln Cheung, Kade joined Cheng Huan Q.C., S.C. Chambers in 2022. His practice focuses on criminal matters, with an interest in defamation and data privacy, which he has extensive exposures of during Cambridge.  

Kade is currently a part-time law lecturer at the City University of Hong Kong, where he teaches criminal law to Juris Doctor students.  He also teaches criminal procedural law to officers of the Immigration Department who are undergoing training.

    • DCCJ 536/2020 : Defamation case acting as the sole advocate for the Plaintiff, secured damages for the Plaintiff.
    • HKSAR v Yu ** (D1) & Ng ** (D2) (FLCC 1322/2023) : Acted for D1 and secured acquittal on all charges including ‘making a child pornography’ and ‘unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 16 years of age’ after trial (led by Mr. Osmond Lam).
    • HKSAR v Ho ** (KCCC1577/2024) : Sole advocate for the Defendant, a teacher who was accused of molesting a student, and secured inadmissibility of the cautioned statements and eventually acquittal on all three charges of indecent assault after trial. 
    • HKSAR v Rao ** (WKCC 5250/2023) : Sole advocate for the Defendant and secured acquittal on the charge of assaulting occasioning bodily harm after trial on the basis of self-defence.
    • HKSAR v Chong ** (STCC 843/2024) : Sole advocate for the Defendant, a teacher who was accused of molesting a student, and secured acquittal on all four charges of indecent assault after trial. 
    • HKSAR v Chan ** (D1) & Leung ** (D2) (KCCC 1805/2023) : Sole advocate for D2 who was alleged of theft, and secured acquittal after trial.
    • HKSAR v Cheng ** (STCC 511/2022) : Sole advocate for the Defendant who was alleged of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and secured acquittal after trial.
    • HKSAR v Ho ** (KTCC 1366/2022) : Sole advocate for the Defendant who was alleged of wounding, and secured case withdrawal with costs awarded.
    • HKSAR v Ho ** (FLCC 1599/2022) : Sole advocate for the Defendant and secured acquittal on the charge of assault with no case to answer after trial and costs awarded.
    • HKSAR v Huang * (TMCC 15/2023) : Sole advocate for the Defendant who was alleged of wounding, and secured acquittal with no case to answer after trial.
    • HKSAR v Wan ** (WKS 15832/2022) : Sole advocate for the Defendant who was alleged of multiple driving offences, and secured acquittal after trial.
